Monir (2014) is a documentary about the life and work of Iranian artist Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian. Farmanfarmaian pioneered new forms of geometric mirror works in the 1970s, creating an artistic language informed by traditional Iranian craft and her formative years spent in New York. The film explores a range of factors that have made her one of the most innovative and influential artists of the Middle East: from her method of constructing mirror mosaics to political changes in her own country and her subsequent migration to New York. Monir paints a portrait of an unstoppable artist who returned to Tehran in 2005 to reestablish a thriving studio practice. Now in her 90s, Monir proves to be as vibrant and creative as ever.

Bahman Kiarostami (born 1978) lives and works in Tehran, as a documentary film director, editor and cinematographer. He made his first documentary Morteza Momayez: Father of Iranian Contemporary Graphic Design in 1996. Most of his documentaries focus on valuing and legitimizing processes in art, but also cover the visible yet obscured and unnoticed details which define Iran's post revolutionary visual culture.
