Master Omoumi in Concert

<center>Hossein Omoumi<br>Feb 9, 2003<br>San Diego, CA<br><center<br>Master musician Hossein Omoumi will present a lecture and concert at the NeurosciencesInstitute (10640 John Jay Hopkins Drive).<br><br>Concert (7 pm)<br>Mr. Omoumi will present a concert of Persian Classical Music featuring the Ney (bamboo flute), and Voice.<br><br>There is no doubt that Hossein Omoumi, who plays the Persian "ney" is the most gifted of his generation.  Highly knowledgeable about "radif", (Persian musical melody) he has inherited from his Master Hassan Kassai, all the secrets of the reed flute, particularly a quasi alchemist approach to music whose fluidity expresses and demonstrates accomplishment.  But Omoumi stands out equally by a sharp spirit of research which manifests itself particularly in the field of instrument making: a small key placed on his flute on the level of his right auricular allows him for example some technical process, unrealizable on a conventional "ney".  But he has the good taste to use it with an extreme discernment without ever going beyond the limits of traditional canons.<br>From an article published in "LE MONDE DE LA MUSIQUE"<br><br>Read a review from Mr. Omoumi’s 2001 concert in California at <br>http://www.geocities.com/darvaksd/Omoumi_June2001_review.html <BR><BR><a href =http://www.lianrecords.com/pgs/houmanp.html target=_blank>Hooman Pourmehdi</a> will be accompanying Dr. Omoumi on tombak and daf.
